George Ates

Hello, and thanks for joining me at First Street Café. I was born in Jackson and raised in rural Mississippi. My dad taught me to play guitar since the age 8, and he spent nights singing me to sleep. I grew up with the best influences... The Beatles, Van Morrison, James Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Jimi Hendrix, Stephen Bishop, Eagles, Doobies, etc. At 21 (1971), in my second year of college, I was playing with Paul Davis (RIP) – “I Go Crazy”, “Cool Nights”, etc., Sid Herring and the Gants, and toured with The Drifter’s guitarist for three years in a show band. In 1976, I went on my own with an acoustic guitar. As an accomplished guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, I have accumulated a vast repertoire of cover tunes from famous artist over the years and recorded an album and a CD of original tunes (www.georgeates.com). I currently live with my wife in Suisun City, CA
