Description

Gaby Castro is an Americana-indie-pop singer, ASCAP-affiliated songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet, model, actress, and activist raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently located in St. Paul, MN. Her third studio album, Love Always, was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer and artist Robert Berry at Soundtek Studios in Campbell, CA and released worldwide in October of 2015, following her previous full-length releases of Free Spirit in 2011 and Made to Dream in 2012. Her new album consists of 13 tracks ranging from crash-and-burn heartbreak to messages of love and hope with some mentions of childhood and hometown nostalgia. The songwriting incorporates the lyrical power of Carole King, infectious hooks of Taylor Swift, and storytelling feel of Jewel. An advocate for mental illness awareness, many of Gaby’s songs touch on her personal struggles and the trials of those around her. Let her music tell the stories.

Embracing the folksy pop of artists such as Suzanne Vega and Sheryl Crow, Aprylle Gilbert combines stirring melodies with words of inspiration, joy, and - at times –sadness. In a voice both pensive and sultry that often hints at an underlying self-consciousness, Aprylle takes the listener on a trek that is semi-autobiographical yet familiar to most of us. There is an overall theme of learning to be true to yourself, and the happiness that lies in finding someone who will accept you for who you are. To that end, much of Aprylle's music is lifting and inspirational, though poignant reminders of a not-so-joyful past are ever present from an aspiring songstress longer afraid to bare her soul.
